If you’ve been living under a rock lately you will have missed the launch of the new blogging platform, Ghost. I got in early by backing it on Kickstarter but I didn’t get a chance to look at creating a theme for it until a couple of days ago.
So here it is, my first theme for Ghost, called Aura which is free for you to use however you like. It isn’t a groundbreaking theme by any means but I want to provide an alternative to the default theme, so your brand new blog powered by Ghost doesn’t look the same as all the others out there.Download Aura for Ghost (2472 downloads)
For now, it isn’t possible to create any plugins or theme options in a Ghost theme, so it is very basic but those of you who know even basic CSS will be able to do things like change colours. What you can do is mostly limited to what functionality Ghost currently provides:
- Upload a logo: You can use an image instead of the blog name as the title of the blog in the header section.
- Set a header background image: When you do this, the header is much larger to allow more space for an image.
- Posts per page: You can select how many posts appear on a single page.
I currently don’t have an online demo up and running but you can see it in action in these screenshots.
How to Install
Unzip the aura.zip file you’ve downloaded and place the “aura” folder in the
content/themes folder of your Ghost install. You’ll need to restart your Ghost blog before you can select Aura in the settings. The Ghost docs has more information.
